Only Billy Napier can find a way to knock off a top-ten team and still find himself in hot water with the Gator Nation fanbase, but here we are.

At the end of Florida's win over Texas, Napier took a timeout when the TV announcers seemed to indicate that the Gators could have opted for a 10-second runoff instead.

The end result is Gator fans being perplexed, even after knocking off No. 9 Texas.

Florida fans are scratching their head after the win

With under two minutes to go, Austin Barber lost his helmet on a second-down running play.

As was announced by the refs, the Gators opted for a timeout rather than accept a ten-second runoff.

In real time, this seemed like an insane decision by Billy Napier, given that Texas was on its last legs and every ten seconds counted.

As it played out, the ten seconds didn't matter, but Napier was asked the sequence after the game, and his response didn't exactly calm concerns of the moment:

"The clock stops because our helmet came off, so we wanted to get our best tackle back in the game."

So let's just pretend for a moment that Napier's interpretation of the rules is correct; it's his overly simplistic interpretation of the rules and lack of articulation that causes Gator fans to pop off even in a moment like this.

Because why is it that David Waters of Gators Breakdown, who is not a Billy Napier defender, has to explain better than Napier can himself:

"In football, if a player's helmet comes off during a play (not due to an opponent's foul), they must be removed from the game for at least the next play to ensure they are evaluated for injury. The team can avoid this mandatory substitution by calling a charged team timeout. If this happens in the final minute of a half, and the opponent accepts it, a 10-second runoff of the game clock may occur unless the team uses a timeout to prevent it."

Florida won the game over No. 9 Texas. The Gators are now 7-3 in the Billy Napier Era as home underdogs.

And yet, we are still left with confusion over a potentially key moment of the game.
