Since losing its season opener, the Florida Gators have won three straight and are 3-1 on the season. This past week, Florida knocked off in-state rivals FSU and Miami in back-to-back games, though the win over the Seminoles was far closer than anyone would have liked.
So, as the new AP Top 25 is out and Florida made zero movement in the polls this week, it's easy in one breath to point out the flaws in the poll, given who is ranked ahead of them.
But at the same time, until Florida fixes one of its massive flaws, it's hard to fight back against any perceived slight.
Florida ranked No. 10 in AP Top 25
For the second straight week, Florida is ranked No. 10 in the AP Top 25. After Alabama and Kentucky both dropped out of the top ten, Florida is the highest-ranked SEC school in the poll.
It is still kind of absurd that Michigan and BYU, in particular, are ranked ahead of Florida. And while exhibition games don't count, it is somewhat funny that Illinois leapfrogged Florida this week, even though the Gators beat them handily in a "secret scrimmage" during the preseason.
But after having to survive against FSU last week, it also feels fair enough to say Florida is No. 10 in the country without getting into the semantics of who is or isn't ahead of them.
The Gators are continuing to dominate on the inside, and it is clear their front court is going to carry them all season long.
But the early-season theme for Florida is that they simply can't shoot when not six feet from the rim. Even after shooting slightly better against Miami, the Gators are still 346th in the country in three-point shooting percentage out of 365 teams.
The struggles are notable because Florida loaded up in the transfer portal at guard, which was why the hype train to repeat was so strong to start the season. But against Miami, Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee combined to go 0-10 from three. Four games into the season, the duo is a combined 8-51 from three.
That's 15% for those doing the math at home.
The good news is that Florida is still winning even with the poor shooting, and if Fland and Lee can figure things out, the Gators should start to rise up the polls back towards No. 1.
