Four games into the 2025-26 campaign, and it is clear the Florida Gators have a massive issue lingering over their head. Boogie Fland and Xaivian Lee combined to go 0-10 from three against Miami on Sunday night. This continues a theme we have seen play out early in the season.
But the strength of the Gators was also on full display in Jacksonville as Florida used its frontcourt to power past Miami in an 82-68 win to move to 3-1 on the season.
Florida cruises past Miami in the 2nd half
Florida's frontcourt was on full display as Alex Condon lived up to his preseason All-American billing. Despite two early fouls and eventually fouling out, Condon had 19 points and seven rebounds. He was also 2-4 from three.
Not far behind was Thomas Haugh, who continues to look like the not-so-hidden weapon for Florida this season, with 17 points.
Even Rueben Chinyelu is starting to prove he is more than just a big man who gets rebounds and he showcased his offensive ability with 16 points.
Throw in Urban Klavzar finally hitting some big shots off on the bench, and the Gators utilized a 2nd half run to make sure the game was never in doubt.
Ceiling and floor
The fact that Lee and Fland combined to go 0-10 from three and the Gators still covered a double-digit spread highlights just how high the floor is for the Gators. Few teams in the country can match the size of the Gators present, and so even on a night when Micah Handlogten only played nine minutes, the Gators never had to sweat.
But if one wants to think of the ceiling for the Gators, it is increasingly falling until the starting guards can hit a shot. At some point, as the level of competition rises, Florida won't be able to rely solely on its size to prevail.
But if Lee and Fland can somehow find a shooting stroke, Florida instantly vaults into a genuine national title threat once again.
