AP Top 25 prediction: Florida gets chased out of the poll and Georgia is back on top

The Gators shouldn't expect to receive many votes this week

Well, the good news is that the Florida Gators won't have to face the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country in consecutive games, but the bad news is that the Gators won't be ranked either.

Florida has suffered blowout losses in consecutive weeks and that means the Gators are now on the outside looking in. No worries because all they have to do is beat Texas next week and Georgia on October 31. Even though the Longhorns suffered an upset loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, they should remain in the top-10. Meanwhile, Georgia is heading to the No. 1 spot after beating Alabama on the road by a field goal.

Here is how I believe the rest of the top 25 will shake out:

The top 5 teams in the country

1. Georgia Bulldogs, 20-17 win over Oklahoma
2. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 58-7 win over Stanford
3. Miami Hurricanes did not play
4. Ohio State Buckeyes, 45-16 win over Maryland
5. Indiana Hoosiers, 20-17 win over Nebraska

No one should have a problem with these teams in these spots. I feel safe in saying that these five teams are a lock to make the CFP. 12-team bracket and at least three from this group will have a first-round bye.

The next 10 teams

6. Texas Longhorns, 27-24 loss to Oklahoma
7. BYU Cougars, 24-10 win over Iowa State
8. Ole Miss Rebels, 52-17 win over Vanderbilt
9. Alabama Crimson Tide, 20-17 loss to Georgia
10. Texas Tech Red Raiders did not play
11. Utah Utes, 41-24 win over Kansas
12. Missouri Tigers, 27-6 win over Texas A&M
13. UCLA Bruins, 17-15 win over Oregon
14. Tennessee Volunteers, 24-17 win over Arkansas
15. USC Trojans, 31-23 win over Penn State

Texas has to drop outside the top 5, right? The Longhorns haven't particularly looked great this season, so some people will say that the loss to Oklahoma was a long time coming. However, something tells me the Longhorns will respond well to this. They are a better team when they can be loose and not being weighed down by the No. 1 ranking will probably liberate this squad to some extent.

BYU continues to quietly move up and now the Cougars' matchup with Notre Dame in Week 7 is the biggest game in the country and also an unexpected boost to the Irish's schedule. Alabama drops a few spots after the close loss to Georgia, but I don't see the Tide leaving the top 10. UCLA will be the big mover of the week after a gritty road win against Oregon.

The final 10 teams

16. Iowa Hawkeyes, 41-24 win over Washington
17. Oklahoma State Cowboys, 42-28 win over UCF
18. Mississippi State Bulldogs did not play
19. Kentucky Wildcats, 35-34 win over LSU
20. LSU Tigers, 35-34 loss to Kentucky
21. Houston Cougars, 35-16 win over Kansas State
22. Oregon Ducks, 17-15 loss to UCLA
23. Boise State Broncos, 38-31 win over Fresno State
24. SMU Mustangs did not play
25. Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 38-14 win over NC State

Give the Hawkeyes some credit, they bounced back from a loss to Ohio State by going on the road and stomping a Washington team that was ranked in the preseason. Kentucky jumps back into the top 25 with another 35-34 win and Wake Forest also sneaks in after a few weeks of good performances.

Oregon might not be able to recover from that second loss and get back into the CFP bubble. The Ducks schedule is a little friendlier for the next few weeks, but they will have to beat Ohio State at the Horseshoe in November. LSU is also on the playoff bubble and the Tigers' upcoming schedule includes games against Alabama and Texas. Good luck with that.

Boise State now has a clear path to be the Group of 5/6 representative in the CFP after North Dakota State lost to UNLV.
