A rollercoaster recruiting day leaves Florida both winning and losing

One step forward, one step back. One step forward, one step back.

The Florida Gators have had quite the doozy of 24 hours in the world of recruiting. It started on Sunday night as predictions started to get logged that the Gators were losing ground on five-star EDGE Trenton Henderson, with NIL money at the heart of why he is slipping away.

Then more predictions were logged, and on Monday, the Gators kept taking one step forward, then one step back, then another step forward.

Florida Gators miss out on key target, but have two other predictions logged

We'll start with the bad news first before we get to the good news. Both On3 and 247 had logged predictions that four-star DL Preston Carey was going to land with the Gators.

He made his official announcement on Monday night and...

He's going to Georgia.

Coming off the heels of the Henderson saga, it left Gator fans in a bit of shock.

In news that's just news, Florida was named as a finalist for five-star OT Felix Ojo, but all indications seem to think he is going to head to Texas.

So now for some good news, we hope.

Florida has had predictions logged to land both LB DQ Forkpa and DL Kendall Guervil.

Forkpa is a four-star currently at IMG by way of Georgia. He took is official visit to Florida back in May and followed that up with visits to FSU, Michigan, and Miami.

He is viewed as a physical and explosive player who would have some time to develop in Florida's deep linebacker room.

Guervil is a player we have highlighted frequently here at Hail Florida Hail. When we profiled him in June, we said:

"On film, it's easy to see why Guervil is rated as high as he is. He can play inside or outside, and either way, he seldom gets stopped. Teams try to double-team him, and that doesn't seem to work either.

His first step burst would need to be a touch better if he was trying to crack the top 50 nationally, but he is going to walk onto someone's campus next year with the size to be immediately plugged into a Power Four defensive line and not look out of place."

Guervil's recruitment has been all over the map. Just last week, Steve Wiltfong of On3 predicted Guervil was going to land with Texas. But Florida appears to have flipped the script, and Chad Simmons, among others, now thinks he will land with the Gators.
