Easton Royal is Choosin' Gainesville.
The nation's top-ranked wide receiver announced his commitment to the Florida Gators, flipping from a Texas pledge he's held for nearly a year. Royal was back on campus over the weekend, taking in Homecoming, but even a loss to South Carolina couldn't dampen his enthusiasm about being part of what Jon Sumrall is trying to build.

Royal, a 5-foot-11 1/2, 214-pound wide receiver from New Orleans, Louisiana had been committed to Texas since November 2025.
Absolutely massive win for the Gators.

5-star Easton Royal adds to Florida's bright future
Even though Florida had a pretty uneasy performance on offense against the Gamecocks, Royal clearly sees a fit for himself in the Gators scheme. Whether Buster Faulkner is there in 2027 or not, Sumrall has always surrounded himself with offensive minds that create situations for playmakers to thrive.
Royal has been committed to Texas since November 2025 and was also looking at the possibility of staying in state and going to LSU. But Royal has always had Florida at the top of his list, only the uncertainty surrounding Billy Napier kept the five-star recruit from committing to the Gators when he made his initial announcement.
This commitment is a major endorsement of the faith that Royal has in Sumrall. The two built a relationship when the Gators coach was at Tulane and would often attend his games or send staffers to see him. While Sumrall knew that Royal wasn't going to commit to him at Tulane, the built-in relationship came into play when he arrived at Florida and decided to pursue a playmaker that could change everything for the Gators.
Jon Sumrall proves he can recruit with the SEC big boys
There was no question about Sumrall's energy or commitment to being aggressive on the trail, but without results, it's just wasted energy. Royal's pledge is a major endorsement for Sumrall and the rest of the Gators coaching staff. It sends a message to top-level recruits on both sides of the ball that Florida is going to be a player in the NIL era. Royal's commitment didn't come cheap and the Gators had to put up a package that was at least comparable to what Texas and LSU were putting out there.
The potential for a domino effect is huge. Royal's commitment probably closes the book on a 2027 recruiting haul that will finish in the Top 10, but it kicks the door wide open for 2028, and you can expect that the Gators will use this news as a tool for 5-star in-state wide receiver Brysen Wright.
It wasn't the best weekend in Gainesville, and the 2026 Gators have a lot of work to do, but things change quickly in college football. Royal's commitment to Florida should have fans very excited about what lies ahead.
