Maybe Jon Sumrall wasn't that bad of a hire after all... Just a few days after the Florida Gators named Sumrall as their newest head football coach, the recruiting wins started to roll in.

From keeping elite players who are already on Florida's roster to cementing blue-chip prospects in the upcoming recruiting class, Sumrall is doing everything he can to win over fans and the program as a whole.

Less than 12 hours before National Signing Day on Wednesday, Dec. 3, four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh reaffirmed his commitment to the Gators, despite the head coach who recruited him, Billy Napier, no longer being at the helm.

CJ Bronaugh sticks with Gators over Buckeyes

When he shared that he was locked in with the Gators and would sign with them on NSD, he stuck it to the No. 1 team in the country: the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes, who were also the defending National Champions, had been hot on Bronaugh's trail.

However, despite the offer from the current best team in the country, Bronaugh stuck with his initial choice, reaffirming his commitment to the University of Florida.

When the report came out that Bronaugh would sign with Florida, he kept his message on social media short and simple: "I'm home, GO GATORS."

The young cornerback is part of the Gators' class of 2026, which ranks 13th in the nation and sixth in the SEC. It is headlined by Bronaugh, four-star wide receiver Davian Groce, four-star EDGE Kevin Ford, four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy, and 14 other blue-chip prospects.

While Napier may have recruited the top-15 class, Sumrall is doing a fantastic job of retaining the talent so far, assisted by four-star quarterback commit Will Griffin.

All 18 commits were expected to sign with Florida on National Signing Day, which was still a massive deal for prospects, despite National Letters of Intent being a thing of the past. At this point, Sumrall deserves a round of applause and a pat on the back for overseeing the head coaching transition.
