Jon Sumrall wants to keep that recruiting train humming as the post-spring period gets going, and it continued today when the Florida Gators received a pledge from three-star tight end Tommy Douglas. The tight end was one of the first players that Sumrall offered in January and Douglas was on campus over the spring.

Douglas, who plays high school football for The Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey, is the second tight end to commit to the Gators this cycle, joining three-star prospect Jackson Ballinger, who made his pledge to Florida in February.

This is the fourth commit that the Gators have received in a little more than a week, increasing the class from three members to seven. The big commitment during that stretch is five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller, the top-rated interior line prospect in the country. Florida also received pledges from in-state quarterback Davin Davidson and four-star cornerback Aamaury Fountain, who was previously committed to South Carolina.

3-star TE Tommy Douglas is the latest to commit to the Florida Gators

Douglas comes from a football family. His father, Joe Douglas, was the General Manager of the New York Jets and is currently serving as the senior personnel director and advisor to the GM for the Philadelphia Eagles. The younger Douglas told Brian Dohn of 247Sports that his father helped him with the commitment by offering input on how he would fit into the Gators scheme and his thoughts on the coaching staff as a whole.

"I love the way [offensive coordinator] Buster Faulkner used the tight ends at Georgia Tech last year," Douglas said to Dohn. "Looking forward to seeing how they are utilized this year. There is no doubt in my mind this is the spot for me to get developed as a man and as a player."

Douglas also talked about Sumrall's approach to toughness and how he's looking for players that are eager to get their hands dirty. The Gators beat out several suitors, with Alabama, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Tennessee and Clemson listed as some of his offers.

Recent commits have Florida's class jumping up the rankings into the top ten. In a little more than a month, Sumrall will start welcoming in prospects on official visits and if this month is any indication, the Gators are about to be a force on the trail.
