Florida Football Dream Solutions: Kalen DeBoer

In 2021, the Washington Huskies went 4-8 and fired Jimmy Lake in his second season. They went out and got Kalen DeBoer after just two seasons at the helm of Fresno State.

The move has done wonders for the Huskies, as they went 11-2 last season and a top-ten finish. Washington is 10-0 with a prime chance to make the playoffs this season.

He’s an offensive-minded guy who has turned Michael Penix Jr. into a Heisman Trophy candidate.

Napier naysayers will point to a guy like DeBoer as proof that quick turnarounds are possible, even if the team isn’t in great shape. In 2019, Washington had the 15th best recruiting class and 18th in 2020.

That dropped to 26th in 2021 and plummeted to 59th in 2022 as DeBoer arrived.

With his name also linked to the Texas A&M opening and whether or not he wants a contract extension with Washington, DeBoer said:

"“My focus is 100% on us playing ball right now.” “When it comes to a contract piece, things like that, I’ll just make sure it’s known that Troy (Dannen) has done a great job of approaching me and working together to try to make sure the continuity exists here at UW,” he said. “That doesn’t just happen overnight, but those efforts are certainly being made and I’m appreciative of that.”"
