Oftentimes, when someone Florida football is targeting in recruiting, there is a pretty good sense of where that player will commit ahead of their commitment announcement.

In the case of LJ McCray, even the insiders have been largely stumped as he prepares to announce his commitment at 4 PM today. But at least one insider has been willing to stake that McCray will choose the good guys this afternoon.

Florida Football: Crystal Clear

If you have been in the dark about McCray, he’s a defensive lineman out of Daytona Beach rated as a top ten player nationally by 247 and On3. ESPN has him as a top 25 player, while Rivals isn’t sold and has him rated 249th.

At 6’6″ and 275 pounds, he has length, size, agility, power, and any other superlative you want to come up with that one could ask for in a high school prospect.

McCray will step onto a college campus next season with the expectation of playing and impacting immediately.

As we have noted before, we are not insiders here at Hail Florida Hail, so we have no actual clue where he will commit to.

But Zach Blostein of Noles247 seems to think McCray will be putting on a Gator hat today.

His rationale is based more on a gut feeling than any direct knowledge, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.  For what it is worth, Blostein is 26 of 29 on crystal ball projections during the 2024 recruiting cycle, though he did incorrectly project Joshisa Trader to FSU after Trader opted to commit to Miami.

Director of Football Recruiting at 247, Steve Wiltfong, has not logged a projection, which is why Florida football fans can feel optimistic heading into this announcement but shouldn’t feel overconfident until those magic words get spoken “After thinking long and hard, I’ve decided I’m going to be attending…”
