Florida football recruiting has had its eyes set on a handful of in-state targets throughout the entire 2024 cycle and has prioritized them over and over again.

One of those is LJ McCray, out of Mainland, Florida, who is one of the best defensive players in the country.

The Gators have been in the lead for LJ from start to finish, but FSU seems to be making a late push to try and snag McCray way at the buzzer.

But is the concern for McCray’s decision warranted?

Florida football recruiting: Predictions mean nothing

The world of recruiting, especially now with NIL in play, is one of the most unpredictable and random things on the face of the earth.

As someone with little to no inside sources, and no crystal ball to predict the future, I don’t have any new information about McCray’s decision. So if that’s why you clicked here, I’m sorry.

What I do know is that Billy Napier has something to prove on the trail. And he’s been doing it so far in the 2024 cycle.

He got burned by Cormani McClain. TJ Moore slipped through his fingers.

But with how aggressively he’s been recruiting the 2024 class, it’s clear that he hated that feeling and isn’t going to let it happen again.

In his opening press conference when he first got to Gainesville, he called college football a “talent acquisition business”.

He meant that.

So, is it likely true that FSU is making a late push to try and land LJ? Absolutely. He’s ranked as a top-5 DL in the country and a top-30 player in the country. Who wouldn’t pull out all the stops to land him?

Georgia is also a major player for McCray. All the big dogs are out to try and secure his commitment.

But there’s a different feeling that I’m getting from this 2024 cycle. Unlike some other coaches, Napier is always in recruiting mode.

I don’t think he’s going to let himself get beat this time.
