Florida Football: Treyaun Webb scores first career touchdown
If one were to take bets on who the first running back was going to be to score a touchdown in 2023 for Florida football, one would have guessed either Montrell Johnson or Trevor Etienne. And they would have been correct as Johnson scored the first touchdown for the Gators against McNeese State.
But as it turns out, the second running back to score a touchdown this season wasn’t Etienne, it was true freshman Treyaun Webb.
Florida Football: Caught in his Webb
We profiled Webb last month in our freshman profile series.
At the time, we said:
"Webb was a four-star prospect by three of the four recruiting services. We will let you take a wild guess which of the four rated him as a three-star.Listed at 5’11” and 213 pounds, Webb didn’t subscribe to just one running style during his time at Trinity Christian in Jacksonville. He could bounce the ball outside as needed, though we wouldn’t necessarily call him a speed back.He also had no issue running up the middle and bowling you over if you got in his way."
We also said at the time there was a high chance of Webb redshirting due to Cam Carroll being ahead of him on the depth chart as the third running back for Florida football.
Carroll went down with a knee injury in camp, opening the door for Webb.
Tonight against McNeese State, Webb got a chance to showcase his abilities to all of Gator Nation.
Featured as the primary running back for Florida’s third possession, Webb got seven carries for 33 yards. He juked McNeese State players out of their socks as Florida marched down the field, and once the Gators got down to the goalline, Billy Napier let Webb finish off the drive.
It’s hard to say whether Webb will be featured much beyond the UNC Charlotte game, but based on what we have seen tonight, he will be a bright spot for Florida football moving forward.
