Florida Football: Confidence meter for all 12 Gator games in 2023
Florida Football Confidence Meter Week 5: Kentucky
- Last season: Kentucky won 26-16
- HFH Confidence Meter: 40%
Let the record show, Tennessee is a better team than Kentucky. Quite frankly, Kentucky isn’t that good of a team at all.
As we noted in our list of the four most overrated opponents on Florida’s schedule, Kentucky is the perennial gatekeeper in the SEC. Just good enough to beat you if you have an off day, but never good enough to ascend to the top of the mountain.
So why do we have less faith against Kentucky than we do against Tennessee?
Because Lexington has become a house of horrors for the Gators over recent years.
Six years ago, it took Tyree Cleveland and Freddie Swain being left uncovered on separate plays for Florida to overcome the Wildcats.
Four years ago, Felippe Franks broke his leg, and it was the formal debut of Kyle Trask as he led an 11-point comeback in the fourth quarter.
Two years ago, Florida couldn’t get the snap count right and took 15 total penalties for 115 penalty yards.
Florida will be the better team on paper entering this matchup, but there has just been something about this matchup in recent years that makes it hard to trust the Gators.
