Florida Football Career Rushing Leader No. 9: Jeff Demps

  • 2008 to 2011
  • 2,470 career rushing yards
  • 23 career rushing touchdowns

It seems fitting that Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey are back to back on the list of Florida football all time rushing leaders considering that Demps was on the same 2010 4 x 100 meter squad that Rainey was that won the national title in track.

Their tale of a 40-yard dash race during 2008 also circulated around the internet recently.

On the field, Demps was a steady speedster during all four years with the Gators. After 78 carriers in 2008 for 605 yards, Demps had between 92 and 99 carriers each year for his remaining three seasons and had between 551 yards and 745 yards those three years.

Demps wasn’t utilized as much in the passing game and only had one career receiving touchdown.

After his time with Florida football was up, Demps focused more on track and field and won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics as part of Team USA’s 4 x 100 that was later taken away because a teammate used a banned substance.

Demps dabbled in the NFL for a couple of seasons before returning to the track.
