Florida football has never beaten: Texas Longhorns (0-2-1)

For two programs that have been historically near the top of college football, it’s a little odd that they’ve only played three times, most recently in 1940.

Their first meeting was the tie back in 1924, a 7-7 game out in Austin, Texas.

They then played back-to-back years in 1939 and 1940, where the Gators scored a combined zero points.

Yeah. Zero.

The first loss in 1939 was by a score of 12-0, and the game in 1940 was 26-0. Not the ideal performance to put up in back-to-back years against the Longhorns.

Would Florida football beat them today?

The short answer to this question is no. The Gators don’t have the same level of talent on their roster as Texas does, and I don’t think that Florida would be able to keep up for four quarters.

But we’ll see this matchup in 2024 when the Longhorns join the SEC, and the Gators figure to be much better when that game rolls around.

It isn’t ideal that Florida has to travel out west for that game, but it will be fun to see these two teams facing off for the first time since World War II.
