Florida football: FBS teams the Gators have played but never beaten
By Will Thomas
Florida football has never beaten: Nebraska Cornhuskers (0-2)
We finally have the first instance of a multi-game series that the Gators have failed to post a win in, and against Nebraska, the two losses have come in pretty big spots.
The first meeting between these two teams came in the 1974 Sugar Bowl, where the Corn Huskers beat the Gators 13-10 in New Orleans.
The second matchup between these two was on an even bigger stage in the 1995 National Championship, where the Gators got beat up and lost to Nebraska 62-24 out in Arizona.
In that ’95 season under Spurrier, the Gators went 12-1 and went 8-0 in conference. This team had Danny Wuerffel, a young Fred Taylor, and Lawrence Wright, but couldn’t get it done in the final game of the year against Nebraska.
Would Florida football beat them today?
If the Gators are looking for a year to beat Nebraska, this year would be the one to do it. In my opinion, Matt Rhule is going to turn them around, but this year, before he’s able to get all of his guys on the team, they may still be vulnerable.
They were 4-8 last season, so they aren’t too formidable. But in a few years, they may be back up to a solid team in the Big Ten.
This fall, give me the Gators.
