Florida football recruiting: Carter Smith – QB

The final guy on our list today is a player who could very well be the Gators’ QB 1 in the 2025 class, Carter Smith.

The rankings are all over the place for the QB out of Fort Myers, but On3’s Industry Ranking has him as the 121st-best player in the country, the 9th-best QB in the class, and the 22nd-best player coming out of Florida.

Smith has good height at 6’3”, but can afford to put a little more mass on his frame as he’s currently 170 lbs.

While that size will come with time, his arm has already arrived. He throws a sharp, tight spiral and can put the ball just about anywhere. He has great range downfield, and can also make the quick, bullet passes closer to the line of scrimmage.

Carter isn’t restricted to just being a pocket passer. He has great awareness and mobility to escape the pressure, and still make a great decision and throw.

Smith has made three trips to Gainesville, and the Gators hold a lead over Miami and FSU in his recruitment per On3’s RPM.

While he doesn’t pop off the screen, I think the potential for Smith is very high. If he smoothes out his mechanics and adds some muscle (both of which happen in the back half of his high school career) he can become one of the best passers in the 2025 recruiting class.
