The transfer portal for college baseball is in full swing, and while Florida baseball has grabbed a couple of notable players out of it to reload for 2024, they have also seen their fair share of players enter the portal to look for a new home.

Today the Gators had three more players enter the portal to look for increased chances at playing time for 2024.

Florida Baseball: Merry Go Round

As first reported by Nick de la Torre of On3 and confirmed by Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.Com, Deric Fabian, Tyler Nesbitt, and Matt Prevesk have all opted to enter the portal:

  • Deric Fabian – Brother of Jud Fabian, Deric was a mainstay starter for the Gators in 2022 as a freshman. He started 43 games last season with a .218 BA, .323 OB%, and four home runs and four doubles. He started opening day this season against Charleston Southern at second base, but his spot was taken by Cade Kurland. Fabian finished the year with 10 starts, 38 plate appearances, and a .289 BA.
  • Tyler Nesbitt – After making 20 appearances in 2022 with a 4.59 ERA, Nesbitt only saw action in 11 games this season. Nesbitt was used in the SEC Tournament against Vanderbilt, then wasn’t seen again until he pitched three innings in game three against LSU. Nesbitt finished the year with 24.1 innings pitched and an ERA of 2.96.
  • Matt Prevesk – He came to Florida with high hopes after batting .457 during his junior and senior years of high school combined. He appeared in 13 games in 2022 with a .200 BA. He appeared 22 times this season, with seven starts. His last start was on April 18, and he only appeared twice after that. He finished 2023 with 42 at-bats and a .286 BA.

It is hard to say that any of these players would have been starters for 2024. Prevesk would have had the best chance, given the hole that Wyatt Langford is leaving behind in the outfield. With improvement, Nesbitt could have been a decent bullpen guy. Fabian would have probably been stuck on the bench again in 2024 behind Kurland, Colby Halter, Jac Caglianone, and incoming Alabama transfer Colby Shelton.

The trio joins Anthony Ursitti, Carsten Finnvold, Rene Lastres, Sal Alvarez, and Yoel Tejada to all hit the transfer portal for 2024.
