Florida football recruiting: Gators offer top-5 OT from Texas
By Will Thomas
Florida football recruiting is starting to become a real threat on the trail to some of the other schools used to hoarding top talent across the country.
They hosted a stacked visitors list last weekend, and continue to extend offers to some of the nation’s best players.
Today, Napier sent an offer to Bennett Warren, an offensive tackle out of Sugar Land, Texas.
247 Sports has Warren ranked as the 5th-best OT in the class of 2024, as well as a top 15 player in the state of Texas and the 82nd-ranked player in the country.
Warren is a big dude, standing at 6’7”-315. He already has the size to stand his ground on an SEC field, and the strength to push his way through a defense.
His size doesn’t limit his game in any way either. A concern for big linemen is that they’ll just become stationary objects that can’t move very well, but Bennett is not constrained by his size at all.
His film has lots of plays where he gets to the second level of the defense quickly and flattens a linebacker trying to get to the running back. He’s also effective at pulling around and being the lead blocker for an outside run play.
You can check out his highlights here.
It’s worth noting how many players from Texas the Gators are getting in on this cycle, and my guess is that a lot of it has to do with DJ Lagway, a Texas native, being committed.
Lagway has already shown himself to be an elite recruiter, so we can be sure that he’s helping Napier find guys to go after from his home state.
If DJ can help the Gators land Texas guys like Warren and Xavier Filsaime, this 2024 recruiting class will turn from good to great real fast.
Keep up with Florida football recruiting at Hail Florida Hail.
