Florida football hosted a massive recruiting weekend last Saturday and Sunday, with a lot of high-profile recruits who are still uncommitted on campus.

Myles Graham, UF’s 5-star LB commit also made the trip to try and help recruit some of the guys still making their decisions.

One of the best uncommitted prospects who was in Gainesville was Xavier Filsaime, a 4-star DB out of McKinney, Texas.

Xavier is ranked as the 55th-best player in the country and the 6th-best DB in his class per 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

In 2022, Filsaime was a Texas District 5-6A first-team selection at safety after an impressive junior campaign. He posted 76 tackles with three forced fumbles and recoveries, as well as a pass breakup.

Xavier also has great speed to pair with a strong frame. He currently stands at 6’1”-180 and has a verified 100m time of 10.52 seconds, as well as a 22.38 in the 200m.

He also isn’t scared to hurt you if you gave the ball. Filsaime is a big hitter, and nobody is safe when he’s hunting the ball carrier.

So what makes Filsaime such an important recruit for the Gators?

Well, I think all Gator fans can agree that safety has been a position of relative weakness for Florida these past few years. While Xavier can play anywhere in the secondary, his natural position is on the backend.

Having a hard-hitting safety that features great ball skills and the ability to cover well would be invaluable for UF’s defense.

It would also be big for Florida’s recruiting to land another great player from Texas. They’ve already got DJ Lagway from Willis, Texas, and grabbing Xavier from McKinney could go a long way in getting Florida’s brand back in the Lone Star State.

With Texas joining the SEC, being able to recruit players from their state becomes even more important.

Not to mention that the other schools in on Filsaime are the likes of Georgia and Alabama, making his potential commitment a huge win for the Gators.

Adding a guy like Filsaime can turn Florida’s class from good to great.

Keep up with Florida football at Hail Florida Hail.
