Evaluating high school prospects and figuring out who might be the best fit for Florida football can be difficult. Between varying levels of film, varying levels of competition, and deciding how much stock to put on camp performances, different industry experts are going to have variance when looking at the same prospect.

But most experts tend to fall within a relatively close standard deviation of each other. That is not the case for four-star offensive lineman Jimothy Lewis, who just announced the Florida Gators were among his top ten schools.

Florida Football: All over the map

Probably the first sign that Lewis is hard to evaluate is the fact that on his Hudl page he lists himself as 6’6″ and 275 pounds, where as his On3 profile has him at 6’5″ and 300 pounds.

Semantics of his weight and height aside, Lewis is a big bodied lineman that can easily bulk up to necessary size needed to compete in the SEC. As we chronicled with Fletcher Westphal, having the size is half the battle.

The Mississippi product now attends IMG, but most industry experts seem to favor him to return to his home state and eventually commit to Ole Miss.

But industry experts can’t seem to agree with how good he is.

247 Sports has him rated as the top IOL in the nation and the 48th best prospect overall for the class of 2024. Analyst Andrew Ivins said in 2022 that Lews is “A young, promising offensive line prospect that checks off a lot of the right boxes as he’s powerful in the upper half and a natural knee bender.”

No one else seems to be going along with Ivins on his assessment however. ESPN has Lewis ranked 243rd nationally and On3 has him at 269th nationally.

His measurables he claims on Hudl are kind of like his ratings and are all over the map:

  • 345 pound bench press but only benches 185 pounds 12 times
  • Eyepopping 635 pound deadlift but only a 335 pound squat

His posted film from his sophomore campaign doesn’t showcase a player pancaking guys at the rate other highly rated offensive linemen have.

His IMG film from his junior campaign is an improvement, and he is able to get upfield pretty well and block when asked.

For our money, we would probably rate him more in line with ESPN and On3 than 247. Don’t get it twisted, you can never have too many big bodies along your offensive line.
