Florida Football Recruiting: Fletcher Westphal is a large human
Among them was four-star offensive tackle Fletcher Westphal. There may be limited film on Westphal, but the class of 2024 prospect could line up today along Florida’s offensive line and not look out of place.
Florida Football: Size matters
We’ve talked about this before, but recruiting offensive linemen can be hard to project. Between relatively simplistic blocking schemes in high school and trying to project who will actually put the on the size needed to be an SEC lineman, there is a reason why a lot of successful linemen are three-star prospects.
Listed at 6’8” and 305 pounds, Westphal already has the size box checked off for Florida football.
There isn’t a ton of film on Westphal though. He has a limited highlight package from his sophomore year and he has a handful of games up from his junior year.
He plays both ways in high school, but offensive tackle is his projected position for the next level.
His Hudl profile claims a 350-pound deadlift, but that feels low given his size and leg drive his showcases on the field. With proper training, a human his size should be capable of getting to 500 pounds.
And ultimately it’s his size that makes him a desired prospect because 6’8” humans don’t grow on trees. 247 Sports and ESPN have Westphal as a top 200 overall prospect while Rivals has dropped him out of the top 300.
Either way, if Napier secures his commitment to Florida football, it would be a worthwhile addition.
