While Anthony Richardson was putting on a show yesterday in Indianapolis, another former member of the Florida Gators helped his draft stock during the bench press portion of the NFL Combine.

Trey Dean did not have a good 40-yard dash time on Friday, running 4.75 to come in dead last among safeties. He made up for it by bench pressing 225 pounds 25 times on Saturday. This led all defensive backs and would have tied for fourth among linebackers.

Dean hinted last month that he could put on a show in the event when he posted a video of himself benching 26 reps.

Whether the bench press is enough to counteract his 40 time is for NFL GMs to decide.

Florida Gators Spring Football: Scooby Williams has an edge

Spring football practice has started and yesterday was filled with guys doing stuff.

That’s probably an oversimplification but there wasn’t much happening for us here at Hail Florida Hail to overact to. Outside of a couple of incoming freshmen, almost everyone from the class of 2023 has enrolled early and players ran through the standard allotment of drills.

The most notable nugget is the positional listing of Scooby Williams.

Last year Williams was an inside linebacker and it did not go well. At 6-2, 238 pounds, Williams is officially listed on Florida’s roster as EDGE for Spring practice and Billy Napier is going to try to get a little more production out of the redshirt sophomore.

Parker Valby opts out

The national championships for indoor track and field will be this upcoming weekend and the Florida Gators are going to have a tough time defending their title as distance star Parker Valby officially scratched from the meet.

Valby was the runner-up at the NCAA Cross Country meet in November and was expected to score big points for Florida in the 3K and potentially the 5K.

However, Valby didn’t run at the SEC Championships and was medically scratched from Nationals after initially declaring for the meet.

Florida will essentially need Talitha Diggs and Jasmine Moore to win the meet with help from the 4 X 4 and shot putter Alida Van Daalen.
