Florida Gators News: Tim Walton wins game 900, gymnastics falls, more
Coming off its debacle out west, Florida Gators softball needed a morale boost as it traveled to Birmingham for game one of a series against UAB.
Mission accomplished at Florida looked like the squad we’ve seen all season as the Gators won in a five-inning mercy rule 9-0.
Skylar Wallace, who missed the California trip due to illness, was 3-3 with a three-run homer and five total RBIs. Kendra Falby was 1-1 with two walks and Katie Kistler was 2-3 and scored two runs.
Elizabeth Hightower pitched all five innings to earn the shutout.
The win also gave head coach Tim Walton his 900th at Florida. This is Walton’s 18th year at the helm in Gainesville. Since arriving he holds a record of 900-204.
Both teams will be back at it today at 1 PM.

Florida Gators: Gymnastics falls in dual vs Oklahoma
In the gymnastics world, it was a bigtime showdown in Norman as the second-ranked Florida Gators took on the first-ranked Oklahoma Sooners.
Blame nerves, blame the gamesmanship, or blame tight judging, but neither team cracked the 198.000 mark. In fact, coming off its second-highest score of the season last week, Florida’s score of 197.700 was its second-lowest mark of the year as the Gators lost for the second time this year.
Oklahoma had a score of 197.950.
Both teams matched each other on the balance beam and on the uneven bars with scores of 49.475 and 49.525 respectively.
Florida had a meager score on the floor of 49.175, but they also held out Trinity Thomas and Kayla Dicello from the event. In fact, five of the six gymnasts that competed on the floor for Florida didn’t compete in any other event.
Florida will have a quad meet next week before the SEC Championships on March 18.
Torrence and Dean run slow at Combine
We also anticipated Trey Dean to have a great showing as a combine setting is where he should shine relative to his film.
While the two did okay in drills like the vertical jump and broad jump, their 40-yard dash times did not help their cause.
Torrence ran 4.72 and Dean ran 4.75.
Those were the two slowest times of any safety that ran at the combine.
When you consider that Nolan Smith, the 238-pound defensive end out of Georgia, ran 4.39, it’s not a great look for the pair.
