Love it or hate it, the Florida Gators announced yesterday the date of their Spring Game. Once again, Florida will be playing on a non-traditional date.

The game will be on April 13th, which is a Thursday. This mimics what Billy Napier did last year with the annual scrimmage.

As we wrote yesterday playing on a Thursday rather than the traditional Saturday is a bold choice, but it comes with a lot of upside for the Florida Gators. While there will be fans that can’t attend the game because it is on a weeknight, it will also give the Gators a prime TV slot during a period when people are begging for whatever kind of football they can watch.

Florida Gators: Women’s basketball falls to Auburn

An abysmal second quarter cost the Gators in Auburn last night, as Florida lost 66-55. Florida had the lead after the first quarter 18-13 but went ice cold from the field during the second.

Florida was outscored in the second quarter 14-2 and went into halftime trailing first-half

The Gators played tight in the second half but couldn’t recover from its first half deficit. Leilani Correa came off the bench to score 16 points for Florida. KK Deans and Alberte Rimdal both had nine points.

The women’s team is now 13-8 on the season and will take on Texas A&M on Thursday.

Track and field moving up the rankings

The latest batch of indoor track and field rankings are out and the Florida Gators are some of the biggest movers in the rankings. The USTFCCA computer rankings have the men’s team 7th and the women’s team 2nd in the country.

The men moved up five spots from 12th off the strength of their 4 x 4 running an NCAA (and world) leading time of 3:04.11.

The women moved up three spots from 5th. They too are powered by having the 2nd ranked 4 x 4 in NCAA with a time of 3:27.58.
