Florida football: Ranking Florida’s 2022 Opponents
By Sean Doty
Florida football opponent rankings: Eastern Washington Eagles (10/1)
Metric Score: 1
This ranking and score don’t deserve much explanation. Other than increasing the number in the overall win column and getting some snaps for 2nd and 3rd string players, there is minimal value to be gained for the Gators playing against Eastern Washington.
In 2021 the Eagles finished the season with a 10-3 record and were ranked no. 7 in the final FCS rankings. Eagles quarterback Eric Barriere finished the season with 5,070 yards passing and 50 total touchdowns.
However, with Barriere recently moving on to play in the USFL, the Eagles will now likely turn to redshirt senior Gunner Talkington, who has thrown d total of 64 passes in the previous four seasons.
There is no such thing as an automatic win in sports. We saw that last season in Florida’s embarrassing 70-52 home victory over Samford.
However, barring an early season collapse that involves locker room mutiny, if there is one game this season that the Gators could potentially rest on their laurels and coast to victory, it would be this one.
