As we continue to look at certain position groups for Florida football this year, we have now reached the defensive line.

We have already covered outside linebackers, corners, and safeties.

The D-line looks to be a very solid unit, with a pretty good amount of returning experience. Like everyone else on the defense, the lineman are also aiming to have a better season under a new coaching staff.

Sean Spencer, the DL coach and Co-defensive coordinator, is well respected in the coaching world and will have the guys up front right for the season.

With 12 guys on the official roster listed on the DL, we can’t cover everybody. So today we’ll look at the likely contributors up front for the Gators.

So without further ado, here is the Gators d-line for the 2022 season.

Florida football 2022 defensive line: Gervon Dexter Jr

The undisputed leader in the DL room is Gervon Dexter Jr.

Dexter is not only the best defensive player on the Gators but one of the premier talents in the entire country. He was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school and has exceeded all expectations around him.

He’s only been in Gainesville for two seasons and has already racked up 69 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and a pick.

Don’t get too caught up in the sack number being low for someone of Dexter’s profile. That isn’t his job. His job is to bully the offensive lineman in front of him and clog run lanes.

He’s the best in the nation at that.

Gervon is going to have the attention of the entire country on him this year as he tries to make his case to be a first round pick.
