2023 DL prospect raves about the new Florida football coaching staff

The Florida Gators’ new coaching staff continues to recruit premier 2023 prospects, as 5-star defensive lineman Vic Burley met with the Florida Gators’ staff yesterday.  Vic was reportedly raving about this new staff and has included Florida football in the final 12 teams in his recruitment list.  Burley is a phenomenal prospect out of Warner Robins high school in Georgia and has been heavily recruited by Clemson.  Even with this, he still seemingly could be interested in Florida football as the alternative to Clemson.

According to Blake Alderman (seen in the tweet above), Burley was “raving” about the new Florida football coaching staff.  On top of this, they reportedly are right in the mix to land the top 50 prospect.  As of right now, Vic is ranked #35 on 247Sports’ Composite rankings, and as the #5 defensive lineman prospect in the 2023 class.  After his meeting with the Gators, Burley spoke with reporters at the stadium and stated:

"“I really love what the coaches are about.  Coach Spencer, coach Napier, coach Chaney, all of them. I mean, it was really a great atmosphere here. Watching the practice, I really loved the tempo, the energy they have, just everything they do.”"

The question on a lot of people’s minds is what could Burley bring to their program, specifically Florida football?  At 6’5″ 276 pounds, he already has a college-ready frame, on top of an 81″ wingspan.  His hands are his strongest attribute, as he is able to control the OL and hit them hard at the point of attack.  According to Chris Singletary of 247Sports, he is able to play both ends as well as 3 and 4 tech, which shows some enormous versatility that would be beneficial to any college team.  Having a player who can play nearly anywhere on the outside of a defensive line is a true boon to success, and would be a phenomenal addition to the Florida football program.

As of right now, Vic has narrowed his search down to 12 total teams.  It does include Florida football, but it also includes Clemson which was widely considered as the favorite early in the recruiting process.  Other big names are also involved such as Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, etc.  His recruitment will be heavily involved, and will likely come down to the final moments before his announcement.
