College football is right around the corner, and I have been looking at the quarterback rankings in the SEC. Unfortunately, Emory Jones is getting disrespected in these rankings, up and down the board.

So, I will tell you why Jones will be the top SEC quarterback this year.

I am itching for football to start in March already. I am constantly researching rankings and predictions throughout the offseason. Doing that helps get me through the offseason, and it is always fun to see where people rank the Florida Gators players.

I was curious to see where “experts” ranked Jones in the SEC quarterback rankings this year.

I was dumbfounded when the average of the websites I read ranked him at an average of the 7th best quarterback in the conference.

Emory Jones will prove those doubters wrong.

There are a lot of great quarterbacks in the SEC. It is, in fact, the best conference in the country.

However, Jones is ranked as the 7th best quarterback on average, which is a disgrace to the conference. I won’t go into all the rankings, but Georgia, Ole Miss, and Alabama’s quarterbacks were at the top of most lists.

J.T. Daniels was ranked high on many of them, but he hasn’t played any stiff competition in his starts. Matt Corral, Ole Miss’s quarterback, is ranked toward the top of every list. Corral is a very talented dual-threat quarterback, but I feel Emory Jones is just as good if not better than Corral.

One thing that hurt Jones in the rankings is he had a Heisman Trophy Finalist, Kyle Trask, ahead of him on the depth chart. There aren’t many quarterbacks who can say they were sitting behind a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Also, Jones is the best rushing quarterback in the conference, if not the nation already, and it’s not even a question.

He had 10 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown in the short playing time in the Cotton Bowl last year against Oklahoma. Jones has proven he can play with the best in the country.

He has been knocked in the rankings because he hasn’t had the playing time to his name. But he will silence the doubters this year.

Florida will have the weapons to help Jones. They have wide receivers Justin Shorter and Jacob Copeland, who are both established pass catchers. The running game will feature a running back by committee, with Demarkcus Bowman likely leading the charge.

Florida fans should expect big things from Jones, as he will go from the 7th ranked quarterback in the SEC to the best quarterback in the SEC and possibly the nation.
