I know somewhere former colts punter Pat McAfee smiles and says “For The Brand” anytime he sees any kicker or punter coverage. Well, McAfee isn’t the only one smiling, as the Florida Gators indeed are by landing the No. 3 kicker in the nation, Trey Smack.

Florida was blessed with the best kicker in college football last season, Evan McPherson. McPherson left Florida as one of the greatest kickers in the program’s history.

McPherson ended his career ranked first in SEC history with his 85% field goal percentage, which was also good enough for the 14th best ever in NCAA history.

Florida’s stud kicker made 51 of his 60 field goals. He also had an impressive 149 extra points out of 150 attempts (99.3%).

McPherson was selected with the 139th overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, which is usually early for a kicker. However, McPherson is a stud, and he will have a great NFL career.

Trey Smack is the future at kicker for the Gators.

Florida’s kicking situation will be interesting to follow this season. Chris Howard will likely be the Gators’ starting kicker.

Howard is entering his 5th year (redshirt senior) as a Gator, so he seems most likely to win the job.

Howard has also made 100% of kicks in college, going 2-2 on field goals and 11-11 on his extra points. He also has 13 career kickoffs, so that will help his chances.

Regardless of who wins the job, it will likely only matter for this season.

Florida can breathe easy after 2021, as Smack can smack the ball with his foot. Smack has the kicking ability to become Florida’s starter as a freshman and give them the same consistency they had with McPherson.

Here are some clips of Smack hitting absolute bombs:

As you can see, this kid can really kick the ball. He will be a weapon for the Gators once he arrives in Gainesville. The Gators have dominated recruiting as of late, and Smack just makes their 2022 class that much more impressive.
