Florida football: 3 reasons to be excited about the defense in 2021
By Jeremy Klump
1. Florida football fans should be excited for Kaiir Elam and the improved secondary
Florida‘s secondary was so frustrating last season, and they were hard to watch at times. If an offense needed nine yards, they got ten through the air. They rarely made plays, and it felt like they didn’t really have an impact player.
That all will change in 2021, as true junior cornerback Kaiir Elam is ready to take the next step to become Florida’s next shutdown cornerback. Elam will make an impact like former Gators cornerback and current Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback CJ Henderson did. He will lock down the opposing team’s No. 1 wide receiver each and every week, and he will make plays that ignite the Gators.
Elam has been getting tons of 2022 draft hype this offseason, and it’s deserving. He has all the talent in the world, and after his dominant 2021 season, Elam will be a top 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Having Elam lead the secondary will be huge because counting on a player as much as you can count on Elam to be elite will help everyone else. The secondary has their new coaches, but they also will be better because of how good Elam is. I also think they will feed off of the energy Elam will bring to the field after he makes big play after big play.
Gators fans should be pumped up about the defense in 2021 because they should be vastly improved.
