Can former Gators great Tim Tebow help the Jacksonville Jaguars?
By Jeremy Klump
The news that former Florida Gators quarterback and the greatest college football player of all time, Tim Tebow, could make an NFL comeback was exciting. Tebow is a polarizing sports figure, and his failure to succeed as an NFL quarterback was hard to watch.
Tebow is a talented athlete and made his attempt in the MLB with the New York Mets, but Tebow finally decided baseball wasn’t for him.
The former Heisman Trophy winner is still in great shape, and he reportedly worked out for the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. There was an interesting note about his workout, though. Tebow didn’t work out as a quarterback, but instead, Tebow worked out as a tight end.
This is worth monitoring because of his connection with new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. Unless you live under a rock, you know that Meyer and Tebow created magic together at Florida. They won two national championships, and both left behind unbelievable legacies in college football.
Tebow wouldn’t just play tight end for the Jaguars either. As Ian Rapoport reported, and I have been saying, it would be kind of like the role that the New Orleans Saints have Taysom Hill play. Tebow would be an incredible red zone quarterback, so it makes sense for this idea. Add that Tebow was actually offered the Hill role by the Saints before Hill was, and you can see there is something to this.
Then today, the Jaguars’ owner’s son and a member of the Jaguars front office Tony Khan talked about the possibility of adding Tebow. According to Pro Football talk, Khan said (via Bleacher Report),
"“Tim has definitely come in and worked out,” Khan told Bleacher Report “So beyond that, I can’t say too much, but Tim has come in and worked out as a tight end. That’s not a position that we’ve seen him play, but it’s a position that he’s been practicing at with us. So that will be interesting to see how that contributes to us on offense, too. Obviously Urban knows Tim really well, and Tim has got a great history of winning. Urban really believes he can help us, and I think it makes a lot of sense. And it’s a position where we need to get better.”"
You can insert the eye emoji here because this seems like it’s really going to happen.
Meyer is banging the table for Tebow and thinks he could help the Jaguars. But could Tebow really help the Jaguars?
I say yes, 100%, and I think Tebow will thrive in the Hill role in Jacksonville. Time will tell, but it seems like we are days away from seeing Tebow back in the NFL, which is exciting.
