As if the excitement of the 2021 NFL Draft wasn’t enough for Florida Gators fans, as it seems the Gators could see a record-tying ten former Gators taken in the draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter dropped an insane story on Thursday. Schefter reported that former Gators great and the greatest college football player of all time, Tim Tebow, was attempting to return to the NFL.

Now, this news isn’t that big of a surprise to me. When Tebow’s former college coach Urban Meyer took the job with the Jacksonville Jaguars, I felt that Tebow would be someone Meyer reached out to. There were a couple of reasons, but mainly because after seeing what Taysom Hill has been able to do for the New Orleans Saints, it made me believe that Tebow would thrive in that role.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tebow worked out for Meyer and the Jaguars, but not as a quarterback. He worked out as a tight end, and, in Rapoport’s words, “More so than tight end… think Taysom Hill.”

I don’t care what you think about Tebow. This is excellent news for the NFL and its fans. Tebow is a polarizing figure in the NFL, and having him playing makes for a great story no matter what. I also think it is fair to say that Tebow will succeed in a Hill role with the Jaguars.

Many people do not know that before the Saints offered Hill the role he is in now, New Orleans actually offered Tebow the role first. I think Tebow regrets that decision immensely, but it is better late than never!

Jacksonville will be taking Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick, which is a great story. However, having Tebow back with Meyer in 2021, lining up in that Gator Heavy formation in the red zone, taking the snap, and pounding the ball in for a one-yard score will be must-see TV.

Tebow is the greatest college football player ever, and I will go to my grave fighting for that. It stinks that the NFL has not worked out the way we all had hoped for, but I am glad Tebow may have another chance.

It feels good to say this, but it is officially Tebow Time once again!
