Kyle Trask

Finding a team where I think Kyle Trask would excel was the most difficult of the three prospects I am writing about. Not because Trask isn’t good, but because there are a lot fewer teams who need a quarterback and of those teams, there are even fewer where I believe give Trask the chance to succeed in a year or two.

We often see quarterbacks getting drafted 1st or 2nd overall and not succeed because the team around them is so bad and can’t protect their quarterback. I believe Trask will end up getting drafted on day 2, but there is a real possibility he gets drafted in the first round.

As I’m writing this article, I’m hearing rumors that the Patriots are taking a close look at Trask, and why not? Cam Newton can’t stay healthy, and Jarrett Stidham didn’t show anything special when given a chance last year. He completed only 50% of his passes and couldn’t be relied upon in Bill Belichick’s offense. It also makes sense if the Patriots want to keep their draft capital. They would likely have to trade up from their No. 15 spot to land one of the top quarterbacks in the class. Belichick could wait for the 2nd round to pull the trigger on Trask.

Along with working with the greatest coach of all time in Belichick, Trask would also have to have offensive weapons surrounding him to succeed. The Patriots were big spenders in free agency, adding tight ends Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry. They also added Nelson Agholor at receiver and bolstered their offensive line by trading for Trent Brown. Trask in the Patriots system just seems like the perfect fit.
