Former Florida Gators great Carlos Dunlap has had a productive and solid NFL career. Some people joke that the NFL stands for “Not For Long” because it isn’t easy to sustain a long career in the league.

Luckily for Dunlap, he isn’t one of those people. The 2008 SEC sack leader re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks for his 12th year in the league.

It feels like forever ago that Dunlap was rocking the single-digit #8 jersey on the Gators’ defensive line. In the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Dunlap was selected after compiling 19.5 career sacks and 26 tackles for a loss in his three seasons as a Gator.

More from Hail Florida Hail

Dunlap was a key piece for the Gators’ defense when they won the 2008 National Championship. He ended the 2008 college football season with nine and a half sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss.

If you remember the greatest Gators football player ever, Tim Tebow was taken with the 25th pick in the same draft. It will be nine years already since Tebow played in an NFL regular-season game. So that just makes it feel even crazier that Dunlap is still doing his thing, and he is.

Dunlap was traded last season from the Cincinnati Bengals to the Seahawks and was able to end the year with six sacks. He’s now up to 87.5 career sacks and 109 tackles for a loss.

Dunlap has made two Pro Bowls in his career and needs only 12.5 sacks to reach the impressive 100 sack mark. Dunlap’s deal with Seattle is for two years, so I believe he will get to 100 sacks in his career.

Regardless, if he gets those last 12.5 sacks or not, Dunlap should be remembered as one of the best and most productive NFL players from Florida. It has been a treat to watch him play hard each and every week in the NFL, just like he did at Florida.

Good luck in Year 12, Dunlap! Go Gators!
