Georgia State at Tennessee

When: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Knoxville (Neyland Stadium)

How to watch: ESPNU with Clay Matvick, Ryan Leaf and Stormy Buonantony.

Outlook: Both these teams struggled last season. The Panthers finished 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the Sun Belt while the Volunteers were 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the SEC.

I’m not sure either team will be a whole lot better this season.

Georgia State does have quarterback Dan Ellington returning after passing for 2,119 yards and rushing for another 625 last season. He also threw just five interceptions in his first season under center. One thing of interest is, according to its depth chart, the Panthers have yet to decide on a starting running back. In contention is senior Tra Barnett and sophomore Seth Paige.

Tennessee could be without middle linebacker, and returning leading tackler Daniel Bituli, who suffered a minor knee injury. He will be a game-time decision. The Vols do return quarterback Jarrett Guarantano, running back Ty Chandler and receiver Marquez Callaway.

The Last Line: I like Georgia State head coach Shawn Elliot (the former assistant at South Carolina), but I don’t think he has the horses to keep up with Tennessee in Knoxville.
