Auburn vs Oregon

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at Arlington, Texas (AT&T Stadium)

How to watch: ABC with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Maria Taylor

Outlook: This is a rematch of the 2011 BCS national championship, but neither team is that good this season.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn needs to get off on a good start against the Ducks as he could be in the hot seat after finishing 3-5 in the SEC last season. Oregon, who is also nationally ranked, isn’t going to make that easy, despite having to travel from Oregon to Texas for the privilege of playing the Tigers.

The Tigers will rely heavily on its defense — which has finished in the top 15 nationally in each of the last three seasons. Derrick Brown returns after a season where he amassed 48 total tackles.

That defense will need its “A” game as Oregon will have quarterback Justin Herbert and running back CJ Verdell back this season. Verdell was the only Power 5 player in the nation to have 1,000 yards rushing and 300 yards receiving last season.

The Last Line: This is a pretty tough one to call. You have a very good defense in Auburn against a very good offense in Oregon. In the end, I think the Ducks may come out of Big D with the W (and that’s the extent of my alphabet soup).
