It’s a big question for both Hurricane and Florida football fans. As we approach the season-opener between Florida and Miami, we tackle this pertinent issue.

When looking at the upcoming game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Florida Gators one must only start at quarterback.

In the case of Miami, it is QB’s.

Can Miami’s QB’s handle Florida’s defense?

The Hurricanes have a dept problem at the quarterback position, as they may have too many for one spot. Some may say this is a luxury but we all know it can cause just as many problems.

Who Will Miami Start?

The Hurricanes have three QB’s that are all shooting for that starting position. Sophomore Tate Martell sophomore N’Kosi Perry, and redshirt freshman Jarren Williams.

They are as it seems in a tight battle for the number one, as coach Manny Diaz states:

"“That’s what I enjoy about the next six days because this is it, this is the week of all weeks. And now the pressure really, really turns up… It’s the best thing we can do to try to create that sense of urgency without inviting another university to come play us.”"

It is obvious that Diaz wants one guy to emerge but what if one doesn’t? Often in cases as these guys on the team start to have a QB they like and think should be the number one. This could cause division.

Perry is a guy that has taken a good bit of the first snaps and may seem to have an inside.  He played in 6 games last season and went for 1,091 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 50.8 percent of his passes last season.

The thing is he makes mistakes and when going up against Florida’s defense that will be their downfall, mistakes.

The pass rush Florida has coupled with great defensive back play from guys like C.J. Henderson and Jeawon Taylor, it may be a long day for Perry. They have the skill and experience to take advantage of Perry.

Now Perry is a good player but many believe Tate Martell is a bigger playmaker.  His last season at Ohio State before transferring he complete 23-of-28 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown. He can hold his own but is he ready to face the kind of defense as the Gators have?

He has not impressed the coaching staff enough to fend off Perry, can he fend off the likes of Jabari Zuniga and Jonathan Greenard as they come from both sides.

They come fast and the inside is just as tough. lack of experience will not last against this defense. His running ability could be the difference as he may be able to avoid the rush and put some pressure on the defensive backfield. But his lack of real experience can lead to a lot of under pressure throws, thus mistakes.

Final Outcome

In the end, the QB situation for Miami is one you love or hate.

If they all can work within each other and put ego’s aside, they may have something. If it goes as many before them where the guy in front can’t make a mistake without being removed, then the game against the Gators could be a disappointment as well as the season.

The Gators have a very good defense and some great DB’s, make a mistake and they will make you pay.

There will be plenty of opportunities for the defense and in the end, they take advantage of those and the Gators win.
