Florida football: How the 2019 opposing coaches have fared against the Gators
In the first game of the season, Florida football will, kind of, re-ignite its “rivalry” with the University of Miami.
The Hurricanes have a new coach at the helm in Manny Diaz. Of course, if you remember, Diaz was lined up to be the head coach at Temple in 2017, but backed out after 17 days on the job to return to South Florida.
Well, now he gets his dream job with Miami.
Now, against the Gators, Diaz has actually fared pretty well.

Diaz started his coaching career at Florida State, where he served as an assistant to defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews. Diaz was on staff from 1998 to 2000 and the Seminoles beat the Gators all three times Diaz was on the sidelines.
Running count against the Gators: 3-0.
From 2000 to 2005, Diaz coached safeties and linebackers at North Carolina State. During that time, the Wolfpack never played the Gators.
Following that, he spent three seasons as defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State, again never facing the Gators.
Then, from 2010 to 2012, he was coaching the defense at Mississippi State. Here, the Bulldogs played Florida once, beating them.
Running count: 4-0.
Of course, it was all downhill for Diaz after that as he helped lead the successful demise of the Texas Longhorns. He barely lasted two seasons in Austin. But, in that time, no games against the Gators.
Finally, he spent a season as defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech and another season at Mississippi State. Neither time did Diaz face the Gators.
Even since coming to Miami in 2016, Diaz has not faced Florida. So, his overall tally against the Gators: 4-0.
