For the most part, Florida and Miami have gone toe-to-toe in their meetings, as the Hurricanes lead the rivalry 29-26. A bulk of the Gators’ victories over “The U” came in the ’50s and ’70s as Florida has only been able to beat Miami in 4 of 14 meetings since 1980.
This rivalry has had everything from late-game field goals to run up the score, flops on defense to get the ball back and an improbable Hurricanes comeback led by an ex-Gator QB.

Florida and Miami have met in two bowl games, with Miami winning both of them (37-20 in the 2001 Sugar Bowl and 27-10 in the 2004 Peach Bowl).
During my freshman year in 2013, the Gators went down to Miami for the first time since the infamous comeback of 2003 and lost 21-16 behind a pitiful performance from Jeff Driskel and company.
As an avid student of college football’s history, it slightly irks me that Florida and Miami do not play as often as they used to.
Both teams are pretty much in the same state of disarray right now where the games would actually be competitive.
