Most Touchdown Catches in a SEC Season (Since 1956)

1996: WR Reidel Anthony, 18 TD Receptions

During Steve Spurrier’s “fun N’ gun” offense at Florida, one of the breakout stars that benefited from it was  Reidel Anthony.

Anthony played for the Gators from 1994 to 1996 and while he played sparingly in his freshman and sophomore years, his junior year introduced him to the national scene in a big way.

Anthony helped lead the Gators to a 12-1 record in 1996, which included an SEC title and the school’s first National Championship.

In terms of personal adulation, Anthony set the school record for touchdown catches with 18, which is still an SEC record, this despite Amari Cooper’s record-breaking year for Alabama in 2014.

Besides touchdown catches, Anthony also had 72 catches with 1,293 receiving yards during his All-American junior season.

He was subsequently drafted 17th overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1997 NFL Draft.

The Gators’ own Chris Doering had 17 touchdown catches in 1995, good for second in SEC history.
