Quarterback

Will Grier, RS Freshman

After a tough QB battle in the spring and summer practices, I believe that Grier will come out on top over his counterpart Treon Harris.

Grier already fits more of the pro-style QB that Jim McElwain is looking for.

Grier is an accurate passer who can take snaps from under center, scan the entirety of the defense and be able stretch it with downfield passes with his strong arm.

Being a RS freshman may lead to times of inconsistency and mistakes, but ultimately playing Grier now helps the Gators in the future as well, giving them a more seasoned quarterback down the line.

Harris is not as skilled of a passer and while his athletic ability is valuable in spurts, it just doesn’t play a factor in McElwain’s current inception of his offense.

Once McElwain makes this move, look for Harris to transfer out of Florida as soon as the season is done.

One thing is for sure– Grier has to help revitalize a passing offense that was ranked 106th in the country with 179.9 passing yards per game.
