Nussmeier and McElwain have known each other for over 25 years

It’s hard to believe that Doug Nussmeier and Jim McElwain first met in 1990 and over 25 later, they are now on the same coaching staff.

When McElwain was the quarterbacks/receivers coach at Eastern Washington, Nussmeier’s Vandals had a record of 3-1 against them, while also breaking records at quarterback.

It would be another 10 years later before Nussmeier and McElwain would consistently see each other again, this time while serving as offensive assistants at Michigan St together.

From then on, it seemed like Nussmeier continuously filled coaching positions left vacant by McElwain.

When McElwain left Fresno State University in 2007, Nussmeier became his replacement.

The same thing happened at Alabama in 2011 when McElwain left to become Colorado State’s head coach.

They are now back together on the same staff for the first time in nine years and it will be interesting to see their dynamic offensive minds work together at Florida.
