Florida Gators 5-Star Recruits: Have They Turned in 5-Star College Careers?
2008: No. 2 Defensive Tackle, No. 17 overall
UF Career: Bust
Omar Hunter had the talent and the skills to be a perennial, All-Pro defensive run-stuffer (think of a smaller Vince Wilfork).
The one thing that he readily admits he didn’t have was the correct attitude and motivation to get there.
When Hunter wasn’t staying in football shape, he was suffering from serious injuries and several long-lasting nagging ones.
The “Tim Tebow of the defense” as Urban Meyer once called him, could barely make any sort of impact during his time at UF.
Hunter eventually got in shape and started playing better by his senior season with the Gators but that mattered little to NFL teams.
Hunter went undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft and signed a free agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being released at the end of the season.
Next: WR Carl Moore
