Halftime Update

This game somewhat resembles the Georgia game, where the Gators showed no ability to stop their opponent in the first quarter, but then got their running game going and started to dominate.  South Carolina drove easily on their first two possessions, hitting open receivers and mixing in some successful runs. The Gamecocks got 136 first-quarter yards , to just 25 for the Gators.

But the Gators got their running game going in the second quarter, with Treon Harris getting 50, Matt Jones with 41 and Kelvin Taylor with 38. Gators defense stepped up too in the second quarter. In a late South Carolina possession, the Gator rush pressured quarterback Dylan Thompson into a hurried third-down incompletion. If the Gators keep adding to the momentum, they’ll be in good shape, but the Gamecocks have shown themselves to be capable of breaking the 10-10 halftime tie.

Off the field, the big controversy is whether two Gators offensive linemen were once against “blocking each other.” Doesn’t look as bad as last year’s incident, but not a good image for the Gators.
