Halftime Review
The Gators started the game sluggish, as Bulldog runner Nick Chubb owned the first quarter, running for a 39 yard TD. The Gators looked back on their heels as it looked as if 11 point favorite Georgia was set to cruise. Things looked worse when Gator QB Harris fumbled the ball at midfield. The Gators held the Bulldogs on 3rd down and then UGa missed a field goal. But then the second quarter and Gator running back Kelvin Taylor happened. Taylor got 30 yards on 6 carries and Matt Jones added 27 yards on passes and rushes to move the Gators into field goal range.
In what was an obvious momentum changer, instead of kicking, holder Michael McNeely scrambled 21 yards on the fake FG to score a TD and tie the game. Then the Gators D tightened on the Dawgs, forcing two consecutive 3-and-outs. In between, another Gator drive, this one with Taylor scrambling for 44 yards to set the Gators up in the red zone. After a clutch pass by Harris to force the ball down to the one, Taylor dives in for the TD. Gators ended the half looking confident and dominant on defense. Eat ’em up Gators, eat ’em up!
Second Quarter Highlights
- Gators shut down UGa for rest of half, take 7 point lead into locker room.
- Kelvin Taylor takes over, breaks big run to set Gators up, takes it in for score 2 plays later!
- On 4th and 10, holder Michael McNeely runs 22 yards on fake FG for TD. BAM!
First Quarter Highlights
- Alright! Quarter ends with missed Bulldog FG attempt
- Harris fumbles, gives Dawgs ball at midfield
- Gators 3-and-out on first two possessions
- Breaking tackles along the way, Chubb scores TD from 39 yds for Dawgs
- Gators win the toss, elect to defer and go on defense first.
- Both teams wear home uniforms, Gators in blue, Dawgs in red. Looks kinda weird to me.
