Florida Gators: 25 Good and Not-So-Good Coaching Candidates
By Terry Lane
The Stoops, listed:
Mark Stoops
Kentucky’s current head coach is an ideal transition for a number reasons. Stoops is building a program in the Bluegrass state, where basketball’s dominance make it hard to get a spotlight on the team. That’s not a problem at Florida, where he can back up his recruiting efforts with an even stronger program to bring five-star recruits into. Stoops is from a coaching family, with both brothers having been head coaches. Stoops is a former defensive coordinator at Florida State, but his Wildcat teams are building the program through the offense.

Bob Stoops
While we’re at it, why not throw Bob on the list. He’s the head coach of Oklahoma, a big-time program that fields a competitive program nearly every year … kinda like the Gators used to do. Plus, Stoops was a defensive coordinator under Spurrier, so he has ties to the program. He’s not too old and is certainly capable. With more than 15 years as the Sooners coach, he’s become something of an institution there, so getting him won’t be easy. But hey, it’s the Sunshine State!
Mike Stoops
Let’s not stop with Bob. The other other brother Mike was formerly the head coach of Arizona and is now his brother’s defensive coordinator at Oklahoma. You’d have to think he’d take the job if we’re offering. Are we offering?
