Florida Gators vs LSU Tigers: Live Game Post

LSU Wins on Late Field Goal
Hail Florida Hail will be bringing live updates and highlights as they happen during tonight’s game between the Florida Gators and LSU Tigers from the Swamp:
Driskel throws a late interception, setting up LSU near the 35. After a weird attempt to spike the ball, where the refs gave LSU a reset at 10 seconds, LSU’s Delhoussaye its a 50 yarder to beat the Gators. Hail Florida Hail will have a full recap.
Just when you thought Driskel couldn’t do it, he hit Demarcus Robinson on a huge pass play to put the Gators on the 2 yard line. Driskel hit an open TE Tevin Westbrook, who dropped it. Valez hits the field goal to tie. Who likes ties? These two do, but I’m sure national champion Gator softball pitcher Hannah Rogers and former Gator pitcher Stacey Nelson want this one to end in UF’s favor.
Travin Dural had two huge catches with under 4 minutes left to put LSU back on top, including a touchdown where he was interfered with, and still had no difficulty making the catch.
Andre Debose does it again, taking a seam up the middle on the punt return, dancing at the 20, to get to the 10. From there, Driskel hit Demarcus Robinson for the touchdown. Gators lead 24-20.
This follows a clutch defensive stand, holding the Tigers to a three-and-out on their own 10.
Third quarter highlights
The quarter ends with a Gator punt after another blown play. LSU looks ready to get a bunch of first downs on the ground and take control, Gator D must make their stand. Time for that turnover I talked about.
Leonard Fournette is taking control of this game for LSU, scoring a touchdown with 3:42 left in the third quarter. The score caps a 65 yard drive that was greatly aided on a 3rd and 17 with a pass interference penalty. Another penalty near the end zone also hurt, but it may have prevented a touchdown catch, which Fournette picked up anyway. The Tigers have 207 yards now, with 121 coming from Fournette. My math isn’t wrong, LSU missed the extra point.
Gator defense needs a rest. Jeff Driskel must move the Gators on their next possession.
Halftime Report
While the Gators started to look strong early in the second quarter, LSU got it’s run game going, scoring a touchdown to get the Tigers within one score. Florida has 105 yards rushing, led by Driskel’s 59 yards, and 44 yards passing. LSU has 149 yards total offense, with only 13 yards coming in the air.
Gators defense is holding their own and their run game remains strong, but if the passing game doesn’t improve, LSU could take control with their powerful running game.
The first quarter saw the return of Andre Dubose, whose cut back the first LSU punt to take it back 62 yards for a touchdown for the Gators. Later in the quarter, he took a pitch from Driskel another 35 yards later in the quarter.
By the second quarter, Gators were moving the ball well. Driskel made some better throws and was bailed out on an underthrow when the LSU defender drew the pass interference penalty.Matt Jones ran confidently and Driskel also used his legs to pick up yardage and a first down on the drive, but a poorly designed screen failed and the Gators kicked a field goal to take a 17-7 lead.
Florida is having a hard time stopping the LSU running game. Leonard Fournette is showing to be the Tigers best weapon, scoring on only two carries after Driskel fumbled on the Gator 33. In the second quarter, Fournette ran over the Gators, gouging through the defense on several carries, setting the Tigers up the Gator 2, with Kenny Hilliard taking it in for the score.
Driskel is up and down again. He’s made plays with his leg and hit a few passes, but had a fumble that set up LSU’s first touchdown and in the second quarter threw a long interception. Gator cornerback Vernon Hargreaves, III went to the locker room in the second quarter to be examined for a concussion.

Betsided
- With Missouri’s loss earlier today, Gators will move into a tie for first place in SEC East with win. They would be the only one of those four without SEC East loss, putting them in position to control their own destiny for the division title.
- Both teams are looking for better play from their respective quarterbacks. Gator QB Jeff Driskel had 3 interceptions in his last start and LSU coach Les Miles hasn’t even announced a starter between sophomore Anthony Jennings and freshman Brandon Harris.
- Despite averaging 93 yards a game, Gator running back Matt Jones isn’t getting the start, as Kelvin Taylor will be on the first team. Expect action from both.
- LSU poses deep threat potential in receivers Travin Dural and Malachi Dupre.
