The big news coming out of the NFL yesterday is that the Tush Push, the short-yardage play the Philadelphia Eagles run, is still going to be legal in 2025. The vote needed 22 teams to agree to ban the play, and only 20 teams voted yes.
It's with that in mind that Florida Gator defensive tackle Desmond Watson, now with the Tampa Bay Buccanneers, just saw his value in the NFL go up and his chances of making an NFL roster go up.
Desmond Watson will end you Tush Push
Watson went undrafted last month but was picked up by Tampa Bay as an UDFA. As we have hinted at a couple of times on this site, his odds of making the 53-man roster are actually pretty good.
Even though Tampa Bay runs a 3-4 defense and predominately only uses one true DT at a time, the roster for the Bucs at DT is thin once you get past Vita Vea.
As news broke of the Tush Push still being legal, the social media team for Tampa Bay wasted no time highlighting Watson as a Tush Push eliminator.
Philadelphia will travel to Tampa this season on September 28.
Tush Push aside, there is real value Watson can provide as a 3rd down and goal line guy for the Bucs that pairs up with Vea. If he can prove his worth as a 20-30 snap guy, he can definitely carve out a spot in the NFL.
Watson recently went viral after his vertical leap from Florida's Pro Day, 25", was higher than the 24.5" effort Auburn basketball player Johni Broome gave at the NBA Combine despite Watson being over 200 pounds heavier.
And if Tampa Bay doesn't want to run the Tush Push themselves, they always have the option to look at what Watson did the last time he played at Raymond James Stadium and just give him the ball outright for an auto first down.
