The Florida Gators will once again be forced to face quarterback Trinidad Chambliss when the Ole Miss Rebels visit the Swamp on September 26. This news comes after it was announced that a “three-justice” panel from Mississippi’s Supreme Court denied the NCAA’s petition to appeal a previous eligibility ruling. It was permission to appeal the ruling that will allow Chambliss to play in 2026. Due to the court denying the appeal, the now 3-year senior will technically be eligible for a sixth year at Ole Miss.
The Supreme Court’s ruling did not include details and was not a final decision, but because the full case is unlikely to be completed before the end of the 2026 college football season, Chambliss will be behind the pocket when the Rebels take on the Gators and other teams in the SEC this season.
Florida might have to face Trinidad Chambliss after all
Chambliss is a player who refuses to be told he has to leave college. This is the second time he’s been granted an extra year, with many thinking he doesn’t want to give up his lucrative NIL deal worth over $5 million. Chambliss also claimed that in 2022, his medical condition he dealt with at Ferris State should make him eligible to be a medical redshirt, allowing him to transfer the next year to Ole Miss.
The 24-year old started his career at Ferris State in 2021. He did not play in 2022 because of the medical condition, and continued to play in 2023 and 2024 before transferring to Ole Miss for a fifth year of eligibility in 2025 and dominating the gridiron.
2025 was described as a legendary season for the 6’0’, 200lb quarterback from Grand Rapids, Michigan. In total, he accumulated 3,937 yards, completing 294 of 445 passes, throwing just three interceptions. He threw for 22 touchdowns, his longest an 88-yard touchdown pass.
Last season against the Gators specifically, Chambliss was 26/35 with 301 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. On the ground he rushed for 10 yards on 11 carries.
He will now enter a 6th year of eligibility and face the Gators in the Swamp in September.
